Smallholder dairy producers’ participation in dairy marketing in Southern Omo Zone, Ethiopia

Abstract Dairy market development has been hampered by multi-faceted problems such as low adoption of improved technologies, absence clear policy support for the sector, marketing problems, and other institutional factors. This study was aimed at analysing determinants smallholder dairy producers’ participation decisions in intensity marketing. It is also identifying existing major constraints on area. A total 150 random sample households were chosen, data analysed using descriptive econometric methods. Heckman two-step selection model used to analyse levels participation. The results indicated lower (38.67%), despite huge potential livestock production found be significantly affected education status household head, access information, distance nearest market, number lactating cows, membership a cooperative group, while age status, land holding, cows product sale volume. findings imply that information delivery systems, infrastructures, vocational should strengthened government partners.
